This Maori styled armband, designed to cover the lower half of the forearm, includes a Manaia in the middle, so that it remains on the outer side of the arm. The Manaia is a creature with bird´s head, human body and fish tail, to symbolize balance and protection over sky, earth and water. The Manaia is almost always portraited with its profile visible because it represents the connection between the material and spiritual worlds.
